Welcome to Skeptics in the Pub

Skeptics in the Pub are groups which meet and converse in the UK and beyond, usually gathering once every month.

The event was founded in London, UK by Dr Scott Campbell in 1999, for all those interested in science, history, psychology, philosophy, investigative journalism and how to examine extraordinary claims of all types. A speaker (or number of speakers) is invited each month to present a topic of interest, which is followed by a discussion in a relaxed and friendly pub atmosphere.

The SitP network was founded by Sid Rodrigues. A full list of the UK SitP chapter locations and websites can be found on the map below or on the Locations page. SitP can also be found on Twitter at @sitp, http://twitter.com/sitp and using the hashtag #sitp.

If you are aware of a SitP chapter which is not listed, or which is listed incorrectly below, please contact Sid [at] skepticsinthepub.org.

  1. Grrrr. Trying to buy SitP T-Shirts.
You have your PayPal button linked to the PayPal “Sandbox” Account.

    1. Apologies for the delay in responding. The PayPal button was in test mode and has now been disabled. It is only possible to pay directly into a bank account as shown on the checkout page.

  2. I was just wondering on how chapters get started. The area I live in has no skeptical group that I am aware of or able to find. I would love to start a skeptical group. I’ve been a skeptic for about a decade. I still feel that I am not equipped to actually organize and properly Direct that sort of group. I feel like a Skeptics in the public be a great start my area. Just wondering how chapters start and what is needed to have one.

    1. *pub

      1. Same here! I wish I knew the setting, but it would seem to be quite a good time with a lot of (hopefully) open knowleadge seeking and questioning people.
Where I come from, there’s so much potential and at the same time, I think I’d fear for my safety both physically and mentally when taking up important topics in a form of a pub discussions (either 1 on 1’s and/or a stage with mic).
Like out of the top of my head, thinking about some butt-hurt thugs coming with a gang to stirr up trouble or some butt-hurt extreme religious/spiritual groups. 😀 Not to mention all the actually hurt people, who feel their individuality is so important that they don’t respect the help and the rules of respecting everyone’s time, stay and effort during their stay at the pub.
But I’d imagine, if it were close to universities campus’es, than downtown areas, these things would shift more for the better. Still – would be awesome to have it somewhere in a casual part of a city.
Are there any videos up of any event or such? 🙂 I’ll go search, anyhow!

Keep up the good work in making people contemplate more on everything in a funny, not so healthy, but relaxing setting! 😀
